Christine Center, Willard, WI
Opening to Pure Awareness: Love and Emptiness (for Intermediate Level Students)
This 7-day in-person retreat has a dual emphasis. The second will be an exploration of the "two wings of the dharma," love/compassion and emptiness as they interplay in practice and life. No interview is required for practitioners who have completed a prior week with me or a teacher of POGW. Maximum 30 people. Registration for the fall retreats will open on June 10.

2021
2021 Retreats by Susan Mickel who teaches in the tradition of Pointing Out the Great Way.
As you know, recommendations for safety continue to evolve and will continue to evolve, requiring us to be flexible.
The presence of a vaccinated subpopulation allows for some changes. The CDC has said that vaccinated people do not need to quarantine after exposure within 3 months following the second dose of vaccine (Pfizer or Moderna). I have communicated with The Christine Center (TCC) in Willard, Wisconsin, and the elderly sisters will have been vaccinated by April. The center will continue to observe strict precautions in shared areas, because most of the rest of the staff probably will not have been vaccinated.
The changes we are making to the April 16-23, 2021 retreat are these: First, notice that the dates moved back two days (originally April 18-25). Second, people who have completed both vaccination doses before the beginning of April may fly to central Wisconsin or Minnesota to come to the retreat, without being required to quarantine in advance of the start of the retreat. If you choose to do this, please bring documentation of your vaccinations to show when you check in for the retreat. If you have registered for online participation, while preferring to come in person, I have a few places left for in-person participation. If you come in person, you can enjoy the early spring in rural Wisconsin and open an online spot for someone else who can't travel!
Fall retreats: Registration will open on May 1, 2021
Opening to Pure Awareness for Experienced Students: September 19-24, 2021 at The Christine Center in Willard, WI. The topic is TBD prior to retreat registration. Prerequisite: a weeklong entry-level retreat with me or a teacher in Pointing Out the Great Way and continued practice; if I haven't been in communication with you recently, I require a brief discussion of your practice by telephone prior to registration. Notice that this is a 5-day retreat, which will be combined in-person and online.
Opening to Pure Awareness: a Foundational Retreat: October 17-24, 2021 at the Christine Center in Willard, WI. This retreat is an entry level retreat that is open to everyone. We begin with an emphasis on concentration, which helps to stabilize the mind so that we can use it to explore the ways that we construct our experience of ourselves and the world. With that as our basis we explore nondual pure awareness in "non-meditation." I am handling the registration: email me for the information and registration form at [email protected]. Registration for this retreat opens on May 1, 2021.
Turning Towards the Reality of our Dying: November 6-7, 2021 online only. This retreat is open to all, both experienced practitioners and those without experience. We will turn towards an exploration of being with the reality of our movement towards death, and how we may prepare for it.
Questions, comments, registration, please email: [email protected].

March 20-22, 2020 The Madison Insight Meditation Group is hosting a weekend retreat with James Baraz at Holy Wisdom Monastery in Middleton, WI. Even more, how can we access it in our daily life, especially in times like these with so much uncertainty, fear, and sadness over the suffering in the world?
